More Qwest Billing Errors Pop Up

Customers Billed For Internet Service They Never Ordered

Another computer glitch within a week at Qwest Communications International has left 250 wireless phone customers in 12 states with bills for Internet service they never ordered.

Last weekend, a computer error resulted in 14,000 Qwest wireless customers being over-billed by thousands of dollars for using their phones.

Qwest initially said that 8,000 wireless phone customers in 12 states were affected by the latest error but later lowered its estimate to only 250.

Most of the affected customers were incorrectly billed an extra $8 a month for the past two months for the "Browse Now" wireless Internet access service, Qwest spokesman Bryce Hallowell said.

Jeannie Burlowski, of Lino Lakes, Minn., said that she was billed nearly three times that much.

The problem occurred when Qwest's billing system was out of synchronization with the computer system that activates services for customers, Hallowell said.

The problem is expected to be fixed in a few days, according to Qwest.

Incorrectly billed amounts will be credited on the next month's bill.
