NCAA Game Summary - Wyoming At U-N-L-V

POSTED: 11:44 pm MST November 13, 2008

(Sports Network) - Kyle Watson's three field goals proved to be critical, as the UNLV Rebels topped the Wyoming Cowboys, 22-14, in Mountain West Conference action at Sam Boyd Stadium.

Watson had a pair of 38-yard efforts and a successful 36-yard field goal for the Rebels (5-6, 2-5 MWC) as they won their second straight outing after losing five in a row. Quarterback Mike Clausen went 16-of-30 passing for 138 yards and a score, while Frank Summers chipped in 75 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries for the home team.

The Cowboys (4-7, 1-6), who had their two-game win streak snapped, were led by Chris Stutzriem, who hit on 12-of-21 passing for 143 yards and two touchdowns; however, he was also intercepted twice as the team was officially knocked out of postseason eligibility.

Watson and the Rebels scored the only points of the first quarter on a 38-yard field goal, capping an eight-play, 40-yard drive.

Early in the second frame Stutzriem hit Greg Bolling with an eight-yard scoring strike to give the Pokes a 7-3 advantage, but that was before Watson knocked through his other two field goals, which turned the lead back over to UNLV at the break, 9-7.

Stutzriem's 28-yard touchdown pass to Chris Johnson on the first possession of the second half pushed Wyoming back ahead at 14-9.

Despite failing on the ensuing two-point conversion, a one-yard TD run by Summers a mere five seconds into the fourth quarter gave the lead back to the Rebels for good, with Clausen's 19-yard TD pass to Rodelin Anthony less than three minutes later sealing the eight-point triumph.

UNLV, which ran 27 more offensive plays than the Cowboys, ended with 323 yards of total offense, compared to 294 yards for the visitors. The Rebels maintained possession for nearly two-thirds of the contest, thanks to 12-of-23 on third down.
