Xavier's Brown Declares For NBA Draft

POSTED: 3:21 pm MDT April 16, 2009

(Sports Network) - Xavier University junior forward Derrick Brown declared for the NBA Draft on Thursday but will not sign with an agent, leaving open the possibility of a return to the Musketeers next season.

Brown led the team in rebounding at 6.1 per contest and was second in scoring at 13.7 points per game, as Xavier captured a third straight A-10 Regular Season Championship and ended with a 27-8 overall mark after being bounced from the NCAA Tournament by Pitt in the Sweet 16.

"I have talked with Derrick and his family," said Xavier head coach Chris Mack. "We're going to get feedback from the NBA and from other people that are in-the-know. Derrick's a smart guy and is going to make a smart decision. I want it to be the decision that's in the best interest of Derrick Brown. I'm going to be behind him 100 percent."

Brown redshirted for the 2005-06 season and is a fourth-year junior set to graduate in May. The 6-8, 227-pounder was a National Association of Basketball Coaches first team All-District selection and a second team All-Atlantic 10 Conference selection this past season.
