NCAA Game Summary - Stony Brook At Boston College

(Sports Network) - Craig Smith had 19 points, five rebounds and two blocks to lead the 17th-ranked Boston College Eagles to a 59-47 win over the Stony Brook Seawolves at Conte Forum.

Tyrese Rice added 10 points and Jared Dudley had seven points, seven boards and three steals for the Eagles (20-5), who have won four straight and nine of their last 10 games.

Mitchell Beauford paced the Seawolves (4-19) with 13 points and three steals and Stephane Bakinde netted eight points and also grabbed five rebounds in the loss, Stony Brook's fourth consecutive and ninth in its last 10 attempts.

The Seawolves pulled to within 31-29 on Beauford's jumper, but Boston College countered with a 17-7 streak, highlighted by Rice's trey with under eight minutes to play.

Stony Brook fought back and got as close as 53-47, courtesy of an 11-5 run, capped by Antwan Hardy's three-pointer with 2:07 remaining. Smith scored nine of the Eagles final 11 points.

Boston College put the game away sinking four free throws in the final minute.

Mike Popoko's jumper gave the Seawolves a 15-14 edge midway through the first half, but the Eagles countered with a 10-1 run. Dudley's layup initiated the spurt and Rice's trey moments later extended the lead to 19-16. Marquez Haynes' three-point play put Boston College up 24-16 with 4:15 to play in the period.

Beauford's layup with 36 ticks remaining cut the deficit to 28-21 at the half.

Game Notes:

Boston College connected on 46 percent of its shots, while Stony Brook shot 38 percent from the floor, including 2-of-11 from long distance...The Eagles' first second half field goal did not come until the 11:13 mark...The Seawolves have played four teams in the top 20 (Villanova, Connecticut, George Washington and Boston College)...The Eagles have won all three meetings...Stony Brook is now 0-2 against the ACC. They lost 107-59 to Maryland in 2000.
