Cunningham Paces Villanova To Rout Of Monmouth

Villanova, PA -- (Sports Network) - Dante Cunningham scored 19 points and had seven rebounds, as 20th-ranked Villanova overwhelmed Monmouth for a 71-48 victory at The Pavilion.Corey Stokes added 18 points and seven boards for the Wildcats (4-0) in the win, part of the Philly Hoop Group Classic. Shane Clark chipped in 10 points for Villanova. Yaniv Simpson was the only player in double figures for Monmouth (0-5) with 11 points. Mike Myers Keitt had nine points in the loss for the Hawks. It was a blowout almost from the beginning, as Villanova went on a 29-4 run that took up most of the first half. Monmouth's James Hett got a layup almost five minutes into the game to bring his team within 11-7, but the Wildcats started pouring in baskets. A Cunningham jumper with 13 minutes left put 'Nova up 19-9, and the school's lead was at 29-11 after a pair of Scottie Reynolds free throws with a little over six minutes remaining. A triple from Stokes with 2:27 left boosted Villanova's advantage to 40-11, and it stood at 45-13 at the break, and the Wildcats were able to cruise during the second half. Game Notes Villanova shot 51.6 percent from the floor in the first half, while limiting Monmouth to 23.8 percent...Stokes made 5-of-11 three-point attempts...Each team made 11-of-13 free throw attempts.
