NCAA Game Summary - Toledo At Michigan State

POSTED: 8:39 pm MST November 20, 2009

(Sports Network) - Draymond Green produced 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists, and the second-ranked Michigan State Spartans upended the Toledo Rockets, 75-62, as part of the Legends Classic at the Breslin Center.

Chris Allen chipped in 14 points for the Spartans (3-0), who recorded a come- from-behind win against Gonzaga in their last game.

"We got physically beat up against Gonzaga but sometimes winning cures all evils," Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo said. "We are not where we need to be to have this program thought of in that elite status yet. And I'm going to keep working on it."

Delvon Roe pulled down 11 rebounds to go with 10 points, while Kalin Lucas and Durrell Summers ended with 12 and 10 points, respectively, in the win.

Stephen Albrecht kept the Rockets (0-3) competitive with a 20-point effort behind 5-for-10 shooting from three-point range. Mouhamed Lo contributed eight points and 10 boards in the setback.

The Spartans got out to a quick start behind a 13-0 run in the early stages of the game to make it 18-8. The hosts were up, 37-20, with three minutes left in the opening half but fell asleep and allowed an unintimidated Toledo squad to score the final 10 points of the period to pull within seven.

Michigan State regrouped in the locker room and came out on an 8-0 run, capped by Allen's dunk for a 45-30 lead.

Two technical free throws by Summers started a string of nine straight points from the Spartans a little later, and, despite Albrecht's three-point prowess, the Rockets didn't have the firepower to cut their deficit to single digits the rest of the way.

"They're tough, they're good, and they are No. 2 in the country," Toledo head coach Gene Cross said of the Spartans. "I thought that our guys fought hard and never gave up."

Game Notes:

The Spartans will also play Valparaiso as part of the Classic on Sunday, while Toledo gets a week off before next playing Cornell...Michigan State had only six turnovers compared to 22 assists on 30 made field goals...The Spartans shot just 11-for-26 from the free throw line...The Spartans won their 42nd straight game at home against a nonconference opponent...Izzo moved within one of tying Jud Heathcote for the most wins in school history (340)...The Spartans' Raymar Morgan sat out with ankle and foot sprains.
