Gonzaga's Daye Decides To Stay In NBA Draft

POSTED: 2:36 pm MDT June 18, 2009

(Sports Network) - Gonzaga forward Austin Daye announced Monday he will remain in the NBA Draft and forego his final two years of eligibility with the Bulldogs.

Daye averaged 12.7 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game as a sophomore this past season. The forward helped the Bulldogs (28-6) to a top-10 ranking in the Associated Press Poll and pushed the club into the Sweet Sixteen, where it fell to eventual national champion North Carolina.

"We're excited for Austin. It's what he wants to do," Gonzaga head coach Mark Few said. "He was great to coach and was a great teammate. He will be missed. We did a lot of research to provide as much information as possible so he could make an educated decision."

A two-time All-WCC honorable mention selection, the 6-foot-10 Daye averaged 11.6 points and 5.8 rebounds in his two seasons with the Bulldogs and set a single-season school record with 70 blocks in 2008-09.

The NBA Draft takes place on June 25.
