Eligible Appliances, Brand And Model Numbers, Recycling And Rebate Information In South Carolina

South Carolina's rebate program designed to help residents replace older, inefficient appliances with new energy-efficient appliances is now closed.

The program began March 31 and ended May 20 when funds were depleted.

Eligible products were as follows:

Appliances:
  • Clothes washers - $100
  • Dishwashers - $50
  • Refrigerators - $50
Heating and cooling:
  • Room air conditioners - $50
  • Central air conditioners - $200
  • Air source heat pumps - $500
  • Gas furnaces - $500
Water heaters:
  • Gas-condensing water heaters - $400
  • Electric heat pump water heaters - $400
  • Hi-efficiency gas storage water heaters - $100
  • Hi-performance gas storage water heaters - $200
  • Gas tankless water heaters - $400
  • Solar electric water heaters - $400
  • Solar gas water heaters - $400

The program was one of 56 State Energy-Efficient Appliance Rebate Programs, popularly known as Cash for Appliances, that were set up in the United States and six U.S. territories with the help of federal stimulus money.

South Carolina received about $4.3 million of the nearly $300 million in stimulus funding available nationwide from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
