New Congressional Campaign Ad Has Facts, Fiction
Vote 08: Facts Or Fiction Checks New Will Shafroth Ad
Will Shafroth's first commercial portrays him as above the fray of Washington, but not everything in the ad is factual."Constant bickering in Congress means nothing gets done," the commercial says.Government websites showed dozens of laws have been passed by Congress this year.
Although voters may disagree with the bills passed out of Congress or may not like how politicians do their work, it's fiction to say nothing gets done.Shafroth's campaign manager points to newspaper headlines that say there is gridlock in Washington and she said there has been no progress on issues like the environment and health care."I'm a political outsider," the ad says.Shafroth has never held elected office, but he has held a position as director of the Great Outdoors Colorado Trust fund.He was also an assistant secretary of land and coastal resources in the California governor's cabinet. So it's misleading to say he is an outsider."Who spent twenty-seven years bringing people together to solve tough problems," the ad continues.Shafroth worked for the past three decades on the environment. Most recently he headed the Colorado Conservation Trust, a nonprofit dedicated to environmental preservation. It's fact he worked to solve tough problems.Shafroth ends the ad and said "I approved this message because Washington politicians need to stop hitting each other and finally start tackling America's challenges."Shafroth faces Joan Fitz-Gerald and Jared Polis in the August Democratic Party.
