DENVER -- Enfamil Gentlease powdered infant formula is being recalled. There's a concern there may be metal particles in the formula. The recalled 24-ounce cans of formula were stamped on the bottom with lot code BMJ19 and "use by" date 1 Jul 07. They were sold at major retail stores nationwide. The formula was shipped to Colorado in mid-December.If your child has had any of this formula, contact your doctor.
The state health department said any injuries would likely appear within three to four hours after taking it.Susan Parachini with the consumer division of the state health department warned that if an infant were to inhale the formula into their lungs, the presence of the metal particles could present a serious risk to the infant's respiratory system and throat.Damage to the throat or lungs may include coughing, difficulty swallowing or difficulty breathing, she explained.Parachini said that there have been no illnesses or reports of injury associated with the product to date nationally or in Colorado. The product is part of a national recall affecting 41,464 cans.To learn more about the recall, call (888) 587-7275 or contact Mead Johnson.
