Did your great-grandfather have a Remington pistol from 1861? Or perhaps a large silver bar weighing more than 25 pounds?

Are you missing any apartment or utility deposits? Maybe an old paycheck you need picked up?

The state of Colorado probably has it and they want to give it back.

State Treasurer Cary Kennedy's office is holding $300 million in unclaimed money and property belonging to more than 1 million people. To give it back, every year the state prints the names of the new people on the list -- 80,000 this year -- in a circular included in the Sunday newspaper. This Sunday is when the annual list will be published.

But you don't have to wait for the paper, just go to the Great Colorado Payback Web site to look for your name. Maybe look for the names of your family members and neighbors while you're there.

While the printed list will only have the names of the new people on the list, the web site lists everyone.

The state holds items from forgotten safe deposit boxes for a few years, then sells the items and keeps the money for the intended owner. You can check out the latest auctions on the Colorado Payback Web site.

The 2008 list is the largest in the program's history.

If you've lived in other states in the past, you might want to check if you have unclaimed money or property in those states. To find those programs, go to Google and search the name of the state along with the words "unclaimed property." Look for the state's official Web site. Many companies will do this search and charge you. You don't have to pay for this service, you can do it yourself.
