Urban drivers will soon have more guidance when choosing the best car or truck for their daily commute.

Three finalists each have been chosen for the 2009 Urban Wheel Awards Urban Car and Urban Truck of the Year awards, with the winners to be named Jan. 13 in Detroit.

The finalists for the Urban Car of the Year were the Dodge Challenger, Hyundai Genesis and Volkswagen Jetta TDI.

The Urban Truck of the Year finalists were BMW X6, Dodge Ram and Ford Flex.

"Both the car and truck category have seen some absolutely stellar product introductions for 2009," said Lyndon Conrad Bell, editor-in-chief of On Wheels Media, Inc., which sponsors the awards. "This was easily one of the most competitive years we've seen for these awards."

A multicultural panel of 23 journalists from a broad array of newspaper, magazine, broadcast and Internet outlets were asked to nominate three vehicles in each category.

The Urban Wheel Awards are presented in conjunction with the North American International Auto Show and recognizes multicultural contributions to the automotive industry.
