The trio behind the comedy classic "This is Spinal Tap" are taking their show on the road to celebrate the film's 25th anniversary. But they are appearing as themselves.

Comedy stars/musicians Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer announced on their Web site that they will tour "Unwigged & Unplugged" starting in April. The 30-city leg is being described as a "multi-media acoustic tour without wigs and electric instruments."

Guest, McKean and Shearer said that the tour isn't about the funny costumes and characters, but rather three longtime friends and collaborators who make each other laugh. Plus, they added that there's nothing better than to find some excuse to get together and play some music.

"With this being the 25th anniversary of the film 'This is Spinal Tap,' we thought this would be fun and at the same time, a little challenging, as we have never performed as ourselves," they said. "Think of the evening as three old friends jamming in your living room. As opposed to OUR living rooms; we won’t be home."

The tour kicks off April 17 in Vancouver, British Columbia, and wraps up May 31 in Milwaukee.

"This is Spinal Tap" turned 25 this week. A mock "rockumentary" directed by Marti Di Bergi (Rob Reiner), the movie follows a fading heavy metal band -- fronted by guitarist/singer Nigel Tufnel (Guest), guitarist/singer David St. Hubbins (McKean) and bassist Derek Smalls (Shearer) -- on a disastrous tour of the U.S.

The trio said the tour will feature songs from the "This Is Spinal Tap" soundtrack and follow-up album "Break Like The Wind."

Also featured on the tour will be songs from the trio from the Guest-directed documentary-style comedy "A Mighty Wind," which starred Guest, McKean and Shearer as a reunited folk group.

Guest, McKean, and Shearer also said the tour will feature some special surprises and rarities thrown in.
