DENVER - Generous Coloradans donated over 4.1 million airline miles Wednesday to help send ill children and their families on special experiences through Colorado's Make-A-Wish foundation.
Make-A-Wish Colorado and 7NEWS had set a goal of collecting 3.5 million miles during our day-long telethon. That goal was met by 7 p.m.
The 4,139,928 million tallied by volunteers as of 10:50 p.m. came from more than 400 local donors. Several thousand more miles are expected to trickle in from other donors who called the hotline but were unable to complete their donations Wednesday night.
Additionally, Make-A-Wish America will be adding another one million miles to the collection -- boosting the total well over five million.
"This definitely exceeded our expectations and we are so happy the community of Colorado came together to make memorable wishes for Colorado families," said Gloria Jara, who worked on the telethon tonight.
