DENVER - 7NEWS is pleased to announce the appointment of Eric Kahnert to the 7NEWS anchor team. Eric’s experience as a hard news journalist with a history of breaking big stories will prove to be a wonderful addition to the 7NEWS team.
"The team at 7NEWS is hungry and eager to change how news is done in Colorado, and that is something I am proud to be a part of," says Eric Kahnert.
"We are lucky to have a journalist of Eric’s caliber joining the newsroom. His drive and passion for uncovering important stories will be the perfect fit for the 7NEWS brand," says 7NEWS News Director Jeff Harris.
Eric is currently a news anchor at KSTP in Minneapolis, prior to that, he was an anchor and investigative reporter at KOB in Albuquerque, and spent 2009 through 2012 as a weekend anchor at a station here in Denver.
"My family always felt at home in Colorado, and I am truly honored to help lead a station that is breaking the big stories, and providing viewers with the best news coverage in the market," says Kahnert.
Eric won an Emmy for a 2-part series exposing unemployment fraud and problems within the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment. After exposing $158 million in improper payments, and $6 million in fraudulent payments in one year, Eric’s story prompted the Department of Labor to add investigators and staff working on fraudulent claims.
KMGH Vice President & General Manager Byron Grandy says, "Eric's drive to investigate important stories and his familiarity with Colorado made him an easy choice to join the team."
Eric joins Anne Trujillo, Mike Landess, Mike Nelson, Lionel Bienvenu and the rest of the 7NEWS team on June 30th.
