DENVER -- A Colorado native is granting wishes for seniors in need all over the country. The two-time Olympic skier and former NFL football player Jeremy Bloom started "Wish of a Lifetime" foundation two years ago. Since then, he's granted hundreds of wishes, including the most recent one where the foundation took 19 veterans to see the WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C."Some 50 years later, to take them to the monument, and see their faces, see the way it impacted them, memories started to come out, tears started to fall, it was just a powerful experience," said Bloom the founder of Wish of a Lifetime.Bloom started the foundation two years in 2008 because he was inspired by his grandparents. He was looking for a way to give back and just celebration seniors.
"Our generation, my generation grew up in a culture that often celebrates youth, money, and fame. Often we forget about the people who have paved the way for all of us," said Bloom.Along with the WWII Memorial trip, the foundation will grant more than 250 wishes this year alone.Wish of a Lifetime's second annual fundraiser Evening Affair is set for Saturday, April 17. It's from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum. Some of the big names attending this year are Brady Quinn, Apolo Ohno and Bode Miller, just to name a few.
