Jane Slater

Reporter

Jane joined the 7NEWS team in May 2007 as a general assignment reporter and special projects producer.

She arrived in the Mile High City in December 2006, signing on at the station first as a freelancer. The newsroom immediately put her to work. Jane's first assignment turned her knuckles white and it wasn't new market jitters rather the freezing temperatures.

"I will never forget coming to work and seeing -18 degrees on the station's outdoor thermometer," said Jane.

Over the summer, Jane also worked as the station's morning show reporter.

"When you wake up at 2 a.m. every morning, sleep seems elusive," said Jane.

While Jane loves the morning show, she is happy to say she is now reporting for the station's 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. newscasts and on the 10 p.m. news on Saturdays.

A series on booster seat dangers just won Jane a Heartland Emmy nomination for producing.

Jane's career in television began in Tyler, Texas at KYTX/CBS 19. She did a little bit of everything at her first job. She covered high school sports and the Dallas Cowboys, produced, filled in at the anchor desk and launched the station's investigative unit.

In Tyler, she was able to both report and produce on several national stories including the Smith County Courthouse shooting, the abduction of Megan Leann Holden from a Wal-Mart parking lot, as well as the tragic shooting in the Hands on a Hardbody contest. Jane was actually a participant in the contest standing with her hands on a pickup truck for eight hours.

"Trust me, the contest was a big deal in East Texas," said Jane.

Her coverage of a state trooper's shooting, gunned down on an East Texas highway, aired on the CBS Early Show.

Jane was also the first reporter to break news of the HGTV dream house debacle that put the "Rose Capital" in the national spotlight.

Jane says she loves the business. She loves the fast pace, the adrenaline that comes with spot news and telling compelling stories that make a difference.

Jane attended the University of Texas at Austin where she double majored in Broadcast Journalism and Government. Needless to say, she is a very proud Texas Longhorn and native Texan.

Jane's excited to be a resident of the Rockies. If you've got a story idea she would love to hear from you. You can reach her via e-mail.
