AURORA, Colo. -- When times are tough area churches often step in to help struggling families make ends meet.At the Peace with Christ Lutheran Church in Aurora the help is in the form of food."Basically it's reaching out to people in need in our community whether they're members of our church or not," said the church's Director of Christian Edcuation, John Paulus.
The congregation donates the food and area families in need benefit."A lot of times it's just people in-between jobs -- trying to get employment. Just need that extra help and if we can come along and help them that's what we would like to do," said Paulus. On any given week around three dozens families got a box of food. There is enough in each box to feed a family of four for a week. It's a short-term solution for struggling families, but an effort that takes a lot of organization.Mavis Heany has volunteered to run the program for five years. She transformed this once small food program into a true family care ministry."We have helped people put gas in their car, we have helped people with furniture when they didn't have anything," said Heany. She calls the ministry her "donation to God."
