Life is full of conflict, and how you deal with it, often determines how successful you become. That principle is taught at the Conflict Center each day. This week's 7Everyday Hero works with the center to provide peaceful solutions to conflicts in our schools."We know that conflict is inevitable. And we teach that violence is not," said Vickie Samland of the Conflict Center. The center is a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching anger and conflict management skills at schools, businesses and government agencies.
Sue Mitchell has volunteered for the Conflict Center for more than ten years. She served as board president, but is most at home in the classroom."This is my favorite - this is the thing I really love to do," said Mitchell. "I see it as a way to make a more peaceful, working community. A community that is successful.""In the first year we did it we noticed the number of referrals to my office went down considerably," said school principal Jeannie Courchene. Many schools ask the Conflict Center to return each year to offer students more tools to handle conflicts in life. For more information about the Conflict Center, visit www.conflictcenter.org.
