Even good students get bored. But in Castle Rock, many children can't wait to get to school. This week's 7Everyday Hero makes complex math problems fun. Welby Nalls teaches at Woodlands Academy, a private school with only 26 students."Our focus has been students who have great potential who have fallen through the cracks in public education," said Nall.
The secret to Woodland's success is its teachers. Students get a lot of personal attention from Nall and other teachers, and it shows."We have math kids who come out, and they're usually a couple years ahead in math because of the way he teaches. And yet they may have hated math when they started," said Karen Bertsch, Director of Operations.Nall has taught at Woodland Academy five days a week for four years, and he doesn't get paid a dime."I work two other jobs because I need some money to survive. But I do this because it's my love, it's my passion," he said. For more information about Woodland Academy, visit www.wacr.org.
