It's been said the only victories worth celebrating are those achieved through hard work. Many a coach would agree with that, including this week's 7Everyday Hero.

Football practices are no treat, but working for coach Steve Finesilver is often the best play a teenager can make.

When Finesilver isn't coaching the George Washington High School Patriots, he's running a program called Jobs by George. It's a partnership with local businesses to create summer jobs for teens. The jobs make football practice look easy.

"The goal is to help kids learn a work ethic, which will carry them throughout their life. We do asphalt sealing, we repair parking lots, we do weed mowing, we do construction clean-up, we move rock, dirt, mulch, things that are very tedious, very labor intensive -- but it works for us. This past summer we had kids representing six or seven school districts and 18 or 19 different colleges or universities," said Steve.

Steve started Jobs by George in 1993, with eight students from George Washington. Now the program puts around 100 teens to work.

Like football, Jobs by George is about teamwork. The kids report to work at 7 a.m. four days a week and are paid. Then on Fridays they volunteer to do work for the community. And students in the program three years or more get a $1,000 scholarship.

Jobs by George has changed lives and that's what makes Finesilver a 7Everyday Hero.
