A Colorado irrigation company will remove a popular sandbar left at Lake Loveland by a 2013 flood.
The Reporter-Herald reports that people picnicked, created sand castles and camped out at the sandbar. It was one of the first spots to be claimed by people watching July 4 fireworks and briefly sported a fake palm tree.
Greeley Loveland Irrigation Co. says it is in the process of selecting contractor for the removal job, which will be funded by Federal Emergency Management Agency flood clean-up money.
Irrigation district general manager Ron Brinkman says the company had wait until lake water levels were low enough to remove the sandbar.
He says the sandbar creates problems because it acts like a dam where the water comes into the lake.
