Investigators have determined that a truck driver was not at fault when he crashed into and seriously injured former professional cyclist Phil Zajicek on a steep and curvy road in the foothills west of Boulder.

The Colorado State Patrol says Zajicek, who lives in Boulder, was in a group of cyclists heading down Flagstaff Road at a high rate of speed when he hit a truck heading in the opposite direction March 15. He severed his arm in the crash and remains hospitalized.

Zajicek, who crossed the centerline, will not be ticketed. The Daily Camera reports Boulder Assistant District Attorney Ryan Brackley declined to say if the cyclist was at fault.

In 2011, the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency banned Zajicek from professional cycling for life following a series of failed drug tests.
