NEDERLAND, Colo. – The Town of Nederland is going beyond the goal of 41 other cities throughout the country by vowing to go completely green by 2025.
The Boulder Daily Camera reports Nederland became the fourth community in our state to commit to transitioning to 100 percent renewable energy following a unanimously approved resolution Tuesday night.
What the town’s Board of Trustees did differently during the meeting was to vote to have that transition successfully complete five years before any other city in the United States.
Nederland’s mayor, Kristopher Larson, told the Camera their decision was based solely on urgency.
“We don’t have 13 years to wait,” the mayor reportedly said.
With this aggressive plan in mind, the town will have to take full advantage of Xcel Energy’s green energy programs.
Aspen is among the first few cities in the country to already be running on 100 percent renewable energy. Pueblo hopes to achieve this goal by 2035, and the city of Boulder is aiming to go green by 2030.
